Menarche
Well I remember my first menstrual cycle started when I was 12 in middle school and the only celebration was that of me and my friends. They had all started before me so I was the late bloomer. My friends gave me advice and tips of what products to use as well as a talk from the school nurse. We had celebrated knowing the fact now we could have an excuse to sit out in gym class when we wanted to just blame it on cramps and miss school some days if we felt too tired.
Other than that most of the experience was actually scary since one day I just bleed and my mother nor my two older sisters ever told me what was happening. Lucky my older cousin sat me down one day and gave me a talk about what I was going through and how my body would develop more fat in certain places for womanhood, babies later in life, and guys as well when I started dating. Yet she told me this awful story of how her cousin had used a tampon one day and somehow could not take it out so they had to rush her to the emergency room and remove it for her. So not only was I embarrassed at being a late bloomer in front of my friends, not knowing what was going in my body although all my friends and family knew, plus scared and ashamed of the cycle but now I was terrified of ever using tampons because they might get stuck or something would go wrong.

My goodness, I never heard of a tampon getting stuck and having to go to the emergency room. Technology has certainly come along way. Now manufactures make slender tampons for people who are really tiny. I can understand how you felt; I am a late bloomer that was a tomboy. I started my period when I was sixteen. I didn’t have anyone to tell me what was going on with my body but my mother. I never heard the word before and all of my friends were just like me-behind times. I was outside riding my skateboard when I started my period. I went into the house thinking I had cut myself; I asked my mother for a band-aid. Do you understand what I mean by behind times? Today, my mother and I still laugh at the incidence.
