Active Roles in Disease Prevention

Academic institutions can have play major role in disease prevention for women in many ways they can:

  • carry out clinical studies
  • carry clinical research
  • have disease education
  • have cancer education
  • create healthcare training programs
  • create community outreach programs
  • have or make a range of education materials
  • set up evaluations and assessments

These are just to name a few of the many different active preventions any academic institution can make as interventions for preventive disease care and self-management or self-healthcare precautions. It is easy start preventative measures or precaution within a university or any other school because this is where everyone learns and absorbs the most knowledge since most of the day is spent there. It would be simple to educate everyone that wants to know or is willing to hear about risks, diseases, preventative measures, healthy lifestyles, lifestyle changes, and have an array of programs or guides to ensure information is getting across to individuals. Even if one person or a few people know they will pass on knowledge to others. There can also be flyers, handouts, after school programs, weekend programs, and community-based programs made to catch all women attention or others that can pass it on to or help them.

AGING

The only thing that bothers me personally about getting old is not being as mentally sharp in elder years. I mean you cannot always grasp things as easy as you once have, you sometimes cannot remember things, or you may lose your memory altogether; to me that is just such a sad thing. Yet I know this does not happen so bad or fast in everyone but it is still one of my concerns and I just have to wait and see how my life plays out.

Stuff that makes me feel good about aging are gaining more knowledge with everyday I live, being able to have others look up to me, being able to teach others, and giving advice on things I have been through or done. I think that makes me smile everyday especially when my son, older sister, younger and older family, and younger and older friends ask for my opinion or advice. It is the joy of life to me.

"Many people equate STDs with immorality, promiscuous behavior and low social status."

When reading this statement I feel that individuals who say or even think this the first time they hear that a person has an STD, AIDS, or HIV is a very closed minded individual. There are plenty of ways a person can get an STD not only for the fact that they are promiscuous. People can get STI's and some can catch a disease form birth but it does not mean they go out and have unprotected sex, they are not wealthy, or that they will pass they diseases or infections on. There is just a big understatement on STD's, AIDS, and HIV. Viruses lurk everywhere and it is not just because one is poor or promiscuous that they have an STD. Many people don't really know the causes, types, or information and they choose not to learn but go by what they hear in media and from others like AIDS/HIV is high in underdeveloped countries. There may be may people you know that could have or once had an STD/STI or HIV/AIDS since they don't look any different on the outside as anyone else they are only fighting an infection on the inside of their body that sometimes they can get rid of, get under control, or can not it does not all have to be blamed on their style of life, living, and activity. Some things happen in the world to random people and some people bring random things on themselves in their lifetime. This statement is not in any way right or moral to use on everyone with an STD or who has had one in their life.
