"Many people equate STDs with immorality, promiscuous behavior and low social status."
When reading this statement I feel that individuals who say or even think this the first time they hear that a person has an STD, AIDS, or HIV is a very closed minded individual. There are plenty of ways a person can get an STD not only for the fact that they are promiscuous. People can get STI's and some can catch a disease form birth but it does not mean they go out and have unprotected sex, they are not wealthy, or that they will pass they diseases or infections on. There is just a big understatement on STD's, AIDS, and HIV. Viruses lurk everywhere and it is not just because one is poor or promiscuous that they have an STD. Many people don't really know the causes, types, or information and they choose not to learn but go by what they hear in media and from others like AIDS/HIV is high in underdeveloped countries. There may be may people you know that could have or once had an STD/STI or HIV/AIDS since they don't look any different on the outside as anyone else they are only fighting an infection on the inside of their body that sometimes they can get rid of, get under control, or can not it does not all have to be blamed on their style of life, living, and activity. Some things happen in the world to random people and some people bring random things on themselves in their lifetime. This statement is not in any way right or moral to use on everyone with an STD or who has had one in their life.

I thought your post was very informative and I agree with you that we live in a society were people or closed minded. People in general think the only way you can have an STD is by having unprotected sex. There or other ways to contract a disease such as through birth and blood transfusion.
